Cutting Machine Special Reducer — TKM Hypoid Gear Reducer

Cutting Machine Special Reducer TKM Hypoid Gear Reducer

Cutting machines are categorized as plasma cutters, laser cutters, water jet cutters, and flame cutters, etc. Cutting machines are also categorized by the material being cut, including metal and non-metallic materials. With the development of automated machinery, the demands for cutting accuracy and speed are increasing. Naturally, this also places increasing demands on the quality and precision of the gear speed reducers used in these machines.

Traditional vs. Recommended Solution

The speed reducer equipped with the traditional cutting machine is the NMRV worm gear reducer. We strongly recommend that cutting machine manufacturers replace the NMRV worm gear reducer with a KKM helical hypoid gear reducer. Companies that use NMRV worm gear reducers on their cutting machines should know that the reducer often wears out, leading to malfunctions of the cutting machine. In the past, when the KKM helical hypoid reducer was not available, the NMRV reducer might be the best choice because of its small size. For cutting machines that require 90° flange installation, it was the only choice. Now that the KKM helical hypoid reducer has been introduced, it can be installed on a 90° flange like the NMRV reducer and is also very small in size. In addition, its advantage is the hardened gear design, which can be said to be more than 3 times more wear-resistant than the NMRV reducer, directly solving the problem of frequent wear and malfunction of the cutting machine reducer.

Key Technical Differences

So what’s the difference between the gears of a KKM helical hypoid gear reducer and a NMRV worm gear reducer?

NMRV Reducer (Traditional):

  • Soft-toothed reducer with worm wheel and worm shaft meshing
  • Prone to wear after a period of use
  • Makes loud noise

KKM Hardened Helical Gear Reducer (Recommended):

  • Undergoes tempering, carburizing and quenching, and gear grinding
  • More stable performance
  • Made of high-quality 20CrMnTi that is carburized and quenched
  • Tooth surface hardness: up to 60±2HRC
  • Tooth surface grinding accuracy: up to grade 5-6
  • Service life: at least 10 times longer than NMRV reducer

We sincerely recommend pairing your cutting machine with a KKM helical hypoid reducer, as this will increase your cutting machine’s efficiency.

Why Not Other Reducers?

Currently, the most popular ones on the market are the four series of helical gear reducers: TK, TR, TF, TS series, which also have a hardened gear design. However, for a small-volume reducer such as a cutting machine that requires a 90° flange installation, the four series of helical gear reducers are too large to be installed. The smallest right-angle shaft reducer has too little power to drive the cutting machine. Another hardened gear reducer with the same size as the hypoid gear reducer is also not suitable for use on a cutting machine, because the hardened helical gear reducer can only be installed horizontally or vertically, and it also has a right-angle shaft output, so it cannot be used on a cutting machine.

Therefore, there is no doubt that the most suitable reducer for a cutting machine is none other than the TKM hypoid gear reducer.
