The advantages of NMRV worm gear reducers are well-known. Their aluminum alloy housing makes them lightweight. They can also be mounted in any direction, tackling any mechanical installation challenges. However, a crucial drawback is that NMRV worm gear reducers have soft tooth surfaces, which are susceptible to wear. This shortens their lifespan when used in high-frequency equipment. Our KKM helical hypoid gear reducers, on the other hand, feature hardened gears made of 20CrMNTiH1, carburized and hardened to a tooth surface hardness of 56-62 HRC. After fine grinding, the carburized layer maintains a thickness of 0.3-0.5mm, ensuring a long service life. In 2020, a shoe making factory tested our KKM reducers. Twenty KKM reducers were provided and installed on their production lines. Nearly five years have passed without any issues. AU engineers disassembled the reducers and inspected the gears, finding no signs of wear. 20-year service life is guaranteed.

There are certain performance differences between KKM helical hypoid gear reducers and NMRV worm gear reducers. Generally speaking, KKM helical hypoid gear reducers offer higher transmission efficiency and load capacity.
Transmission Principle: KKM Helical Hypoid reducers primarily transmit power through friction between two curved surfaces, while NMRV worm gear reducers utilize the meshing of the worm wheel and worm. The two differ in their transmission principles: KKM helical hypoid reducers rely on friction, while NMRV worm gear reducers utilize meshing.
Transmission Efficiency: The transmission efficiency of a KKM helical hypoid reducer is generally between 97% and 98%, while that of an NMRV worm gear reducer is generally between 65% and 85%. Therefore, the transmission efficiency of a KKM helical hyoid reducer is relatively higher.
Load Capacity: KKM helical hypoid reducers have a higher load capacity and higher output speed, making them suitable for transmitting heavier loads. In contrast, NMRV worm gear reducers are suitable for transmitting lighter loads. This indicates that KKM helical hypoid reducers have an advantage in load capacity, while NMRV worm gear reducers are more suitable for lighter load applications.
The KKM helical hypoid gear reducer’s housing is made of high-strength aluminum alloy, resulting in a relatively lightweight unit. Aluminum alloy also resists rust, resulting in improved transmission performance and a longer service life. Since the KKM helical hypoid gear reducer is also known as a hyoid reducer, the name itself suggests that it utilizes hypoid gears. This transmission method allows the KKM gear reducer to achieve a relatively high transmission ratio. This high transmission ratio drives output torque, and when both points are in equilibrium, high transmission efficiency is achieved, making the KKM reducer more energy-efficient and environmentally friendly.
The installation dimensions of KKM helical hypoid gear reducers are fully compatible with those of the NMRV series worm gear reducers, with the exception of some differences between the KKM50 and NMRV050. In short, KKM reducers are adaptable to a wide range of installations and offer a variety of combinations to meet various transmission requirements, providing users with a wide range of options. Regarding speed selection for KKM helical hypoid gear reducers, if the KKM reducer is driven by an external transmission, it is recommended to use a speed of 1400 rpm or lower to optimize operating conditions and maximize service life. Higher speeds are also permitted, but the rated torque will be reduced in this case. Therefore, the service factor must be considered when using KKM reducers. Furthermore, the reducer should be inspected, and oil seals and bearing lubricants should be replaced according to the specific operating conditions.
How do we select a KKM helical hypoid gear reducer? For example, if the driven equipment requires 0.25 kW of power, operates 8 hours per day, experiences moderate shock, starts 100 times per hour, and has an output speed of 35 rpm, and the reducer requires a B3 installation, then we can select the KKM50B-40.09-71B5-B3 based on the service factor.
